According to the reports, police officers found him unconscious in his prison cell at the State Correctional Institution, Benner Township in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. Some media reported that he murdered himself out of the guilt of murder.

James was the old man who shot Scott and her daughter, Kristen, with a 40 caliber Ruger seven times as Scott was getting his car. James had known Scott since childhood.

Judged sentenced Dellavecchia to 4 to 14 years in prison for murder, attempted to murder case. After several years of imprisonment, he died of probable suicide.

James Dellavecchia might have lived with his family and wife before his death.

When police arrived at the place, they saw James’ clothes with blood stains in the basement, alongside a briefcase with the weapon that fired the shot. He tried to demolish all the evidence but could not as the police arrived at that time.

In September 2012, Judges charged him with murder, attempted to murder, and aggravated assault at his trial. In the trail, he said he shot the man in self-defense. However, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to life-long prison without parole.

James clarified that he did not try to kill Scott and did not remember anything about the incident.
