- Liam Payne’s Manslaughter Charges Dropped in Unexpected Twist, charges against Roger Nores and hotel staff dismissed by appellate. court
- Court ruled insufficient evidence for manslaughter claims against defendants.
- Two individuals still face drug supply charges related to Payne’s death.
In a surprising turn of events, the manslaughter charges against Liam Payne’s friend Rogelio “Roger” Nores and two hotel employees have been dropped.
This decision was made by an Argentine appellate court, which concluded that there was not enough evidence to hold them accountable for the tragic death of the former One Direction star.
The court determined that even if Nores and the hotel staff had been present, it was improbable they could have stopped Payne from accessing the substances that led to his intoxication.

Liam Payne’s death on October 16, 2024, occurred after he fell from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires. Following his passing, Nores and the hotel employees were charged with involuntary manslaughter in December.

However, the court found that Nores did not neglect Payne and had taken steps to ensure his safety during their time together. The judges pointed out that addiction often drives individuals to seek out substances regardless of supervision.
Nores expressed relief after the ruling, saying,
“Glad this is finally over. I’m happy I’m now going to be able to travel to the UK and say goodbye to my friend.”
He has consistently asserted that he was not responsible for Payne’s death and highlighted their friendship. The court’s decision also exonerated hotel staff members Gilda Agustina Martín and Esteban Reynaldo Grassi from any wrongdoing.
Despite the dropped charges against Nores and the hotel workers, two other individuals remain in custody, accused of supplying drugs to Payne before his death. If convicted, they could face significant prison time. The case surrounding Liam Payne’s death continues to attract attention as fans remember his legacy and impact on music.
