Lizzo recently shared a touching story about her battle with depression during a concert at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. The singer opened up about her mental health journey, revealing that she fell into a “dark, deep depression” after facing allegations of harassment and a toxic work environment with former backup dancers back in August 2023.
Although she denied all the claims, she acknowledged the profound effect they had on her mental well-being.
“I call it that because about a year and a half ago — it’s really hard for me to share — I was in such a dark, deep depression,”
she told the audience.
“I felt so heartbroken by the world and so deeply hurt that I didn’t want to go on, and I was terrified of people, so much so that I didn’t want to be seen. But eventually, I managed to overcome that fear.”
Lizzo credited a pivotal moment at a concert for helping her face her fears. She recounted how a stranger approached her, saying, “Lizzo, I love you,” and they shared an emotional hug.
She described that moment of genuine love from her fans as “life-saving.” This powerful experience fueled the title of her upcoming album, “Love in Real Life,” as she emphasized the significance of real-life connections over those found online.
