The football club stated- “Everyone at Watford FC is saddened to learn of the passing of Cyril (Sammy) Chung, aged 90. A pioneering presence in the English game, Sammy Chung was just the second Anglo-Chinese player to appear in league football. Rest in peace, Sammy.”
Chung, who could play center striker or wing half, moved to Reading after completing his national service. He then made his first professional signing and scored 13 goals for the Royals, which led to a transfer to Norwich City.
Chung’s playing career, though, was most well-known during his time at Watford. He scored 24 goals while playing 242 times for the Hornets in English football’s third and fourth tiers. Sammy reportedly passed away on Sunday at a nursing facility in Shropshire, which his family confirmed.
