Queen Elizabeth II Disliked This Food – Just like Yesterday, at the age of 96, Queen Elizabeth II passed away, leaving the world without a true icon. Her Majesty lived a prodigiously long life and reigned for a very long time, making her the ideal monarch for the modern era.

In 1952, Queen Elizabeth II first ascended to the throne and oversaw decades of societal transformation and upheaval in the United Kingdom. The Queen’s reassuring presence always gave a feeling of stability, whether it was through significant international events like the fall of the Berlin Wall or more recent home issues like Brexit.

The Queen certainly had staying power, and many have looked to her diet over the years to get a sense of what contributed to her incredible longevity. Interestingly, Queen Elizabeth II hated one healthy food so much it was banished from all of Buckingham Palace.

A few years back former royal chef Darren McGrady revealed that The Queen absolutely abhorred garlic. She also wasn’t such a big fan of onions or rare meat either.

“We can never serve anything with garlic or too much onions,” McGrady said at the time. “We also couldn’t serve meat that was rare, as she liked her meat more well done.”

John Higgins, yet another former chef who worked for The Royal Family, corroborated The Queen’s disdain for garlic.

“The Queen is a wonderful lady, the royal family are wonderful people but they’re missing out on garlic because at Buckingham Palace you don’t cook with garlic. I suppose, in case you get the royal burp,” he once told The National Post.

So what kinds of foods did The Queen enjoy? According to McGrady, she was very much a seasonal eater.

“You can send strawberries every day to The Queen during summer at Balmoral and she’ll never say a word,” he explained. “Try including strawberries on the menu in January and she’ll scrub out the line and say don’t dare send me genetically modified strawberries. She absolutely does eat seasonal.”

Besides seasonal foods, it was also well-documented that Queen Elizabeth II had something of a sweet tooth. She was known to enjoy chocolate biscuit cake frequently.
