According to ABC, a drag racer competing in the New Year Nitro event at Willowbank Raceway left the track quickly and collided with a camera tower on January 7, 2023.
Soon after the event, the Darg racer community began to post tributes to Sam, many of which emphasized the relationships that exist between fans of the sport regardless of team or racing division.
Top Doorslammer Australia and The Australian Top Fuel Championship and round at Willowpark’s New Year Nitro event got postponed due to an accident after the crash.
Presently,Police requested the public to avoid the area around Champions Way and asked to be patient with likely traffic disruption.
Sam Fenech Drag Racing Accident
Sam died despite being a skilled drag racer when his vehicle overturned and slammed into a camera tower at 320 km/h.
The horrifying video of the collision’s aftermath reveals his car scuffing against the barrier wall before flying off, soaring through the air, and crashing into the ground in parts.
Sam’s car is seen in footage shared on social media soaring through the air before it strikes a camera tower alongside the track, killing Fenech and injuring a camera operator.
Paramedics attempted to save the well-known drag racer as soon as the accident occurred, but he was not present.
The racer participated in the “top fuel dragsters” category at Willowbank’s New Year Nitro drag racing competition.
Who Was Sam Fenech?
Sam Fenech was a professional drag racing driver who died from a fatal crash at a racing event, on January 7, 2023.
Fenech had travelled from New South Wales to participate in the New Year Nitro event at Willowbank Raceway where the crash occurred.
His car had reportedly skidded off the track and crashed. Fenech had sustained serious injuries, and despite the prompt medical attention, he didn’t survive.

Reports also reveal that a camera operator was also injured during the accident, but was taken to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment.
Willowbank Raceway had released a statement, confirming the death of the race car driver.
“It is with great sadness that Top Fuel Racing Australia announces that Sam Fenech, driver of the Fabietti Racing Doorslammer, has succumbed to injuries suffered in a racing accident at Willowbank Raceway and passed away this evening,” the statement read.
Queensland Police cordoned the area and began investigations immediately.

According to sources, QLD Police is looking into the accident, and the forensic crash unit is collaborating with Workplace Health and Safety to look into it. There won’t be any more public comments.
With help from the Forensic Crash Unit of the Queensland Police Service, Workplace Health and Safety is looking into the event.
Sam, a drag racer who had come from New South Wales for the event, is survived by his wife Natalie and three kids.
