ESPN sportscaster Scott Van Pelt appears to be doing well. There is no recent news of him being sick or ill.
However, earlier this year, he missed a Monday night broadcast of SportsCenter after the national championship game due to a medical emergency.
The medical scare involving his heart made him miss his show in January 2022.
During halftime of the College Football Playoff National Championship match between top-ranked Alabama and Georgia, Van Pelt tweeted, saying he was OK.
He mentioned that he was at home after experiencing what he called a “medical scare” on January 11 afternoon.
He added that he faced the scare because his heart faced an issue. “Heart got a little out of whack, (SVT) that was pretty spooky, but fine now,” he tweeted.
Van Pelt was referencing SVT, which is short for supraventricular tachycardia. Mayo Clinic defines the condition as an abnormally fast or irregular heartbeat that affects the heart’s upper chambers.
The long-time sportscaster wrote he was “bummed to miss one of his favorite shows of the year.” He also thanked @SuburbanHosp and @CJPVFD for looking after him.
He later added that he was taken to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, but was home resting on Monday evening.
Michael Eaves and John Anderson ran the show instead after Georgia beat Alabama to clinch their first championship since 1980. They did not immediately mention Van Pelt’s absence.

Scott Van Pelt married Stephanie in 2011, and the couple is blessed with three children, including 10-year-old daughter Lila Catherine.
Having grown up in Maryland and graduated from College Park, Van Pelt is a fan of the Maryland Terrapins, Washington Capitals, Washington Commanders, Baltimore Orioles, and the Washington Wizards.
He started his sports broadcasting career in 1990 at WTTG-TV (FOX) in Washington, DC, contributing content for the station’s Sunday Night’s Sports Extra, The 10:00 News, and specials on the Washington Redskins.
