Was Ipob Commander Nwagwu Chiwendu Arrested? An IPOB commander who is accused of planning Ahmed Gulak’s murder has been taken into custody by Nigerian security forces.
The deputy commander of the unlawful Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is accused of killing Ahmed Gulak, a political adviser to former president Goodluck Jonathan, has been detained by the Nigerian military.
They were also accountable for their soldiers’ deaths last week at the same site and the burning of their Hilux, according to a military source reported by PRNigeria. He is currently with the Police, and they both took part in the assault on the INEC office in Owerri.
According to reports, Chiwendu served as the IPOB’s primary firearms instructor. He later advanced to the position of second in command to Temple, who is currently in charge of the organization in the state.
Ipob Commander Arrested: What Did Nwagwu Chiwendu Do?
Ipob commander, Nwagwu Chiwendu, was arrested on Tuesday, December 27, at his Father’s funeral in Mbaise, Imo State, southeast Nigeria.
Mr. Chiwendu, who later advanced to become Temple’s deputy and is now the group’s Leader in the state, was to serve as the IPOB’s primary instructor in firearms handling.
The suspect, Mr. Chiwendu, allegedly quit the Nigerian Army on January 21 and joined IPOB’s militant Eastern Security Network (ESN). He has experience in operations because he served on OPHK.
He admitted to killing Gulak and said his group was in charge of kidnapping the two foreigners on the Owerri-Okigwe Road and the murder of the two Police inspectors who were accompanying them.
What Happened To Ahmed Gulak?
On May 30, 2021, gunmen shot and killed Mr. Gulak, a senior member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, in Owerri, Imo State. On his way to Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri to fly to Abuja, the politician was attacked.
Later, the IPOB and its militant wing, ESN, would be blamed by the state’s Police for the murder of the former political adviser.
A group called IPOB is pushing to create an independent Biafra state, which wants to be separated from some South-South and South-East Nigeria.
The suspect was showcased during a press conference on Wednesday in Owerri, the capital of the Imo state. According to the Police, the suspect is an army deserter from Imo state’s Amaohuru in the Nguru, Aboh-Mbaise LGA.
According to the suspect, the politician was killed because he refused to comply with the demands of the shooters. The Police identified Ngwagu as the planner of the politician’s murder during his parade.
What Did IPOB Do?
The group has recently been accused of carrying out violent attacks in the area to further its agenda, but IPOB has consistently denied being responsible for the attacks.
According to military sources, Chiwendu left the army in January 2021 and joined ESN, according to SaharaReporters.
According to Imo Police command spokesperson Michael Abattam, Nwagwu, also known as Onye-army, had been on the Police’s wanted list. He admitted to planning high-profile murders, armed robberies, kidnappings, and a string of assaults.
He was rumored to be the IPOB’s militant arm’s primary trainer in weapon handling, and within a few months, he advanced to become its deputy commander in Imo State.
