The Australian DJ Tom Nash went through a close-to-death experience at a young age.
At the age of 19, he was diagnosed with a disease called Meningococcal Septicaemia. It is an infection of the bloodstream that develops because of the bacteria Neisseria meningitidis. The virus affects the blood vessel walls and can cause organ hemorrhage.
In 2001, Tom had to have both his arms amputated at the elbow and both legs amputated below the knee. The disease also left scars on his face.
Although it took a while for him to get used to the prosthetic hooks, he did not give up. DJ Hookie is now a public speaker inspiring millions through his heartwarming story.

In a recent podcast, Nash became an Internet sensation after opening up about how he lost his limbs.
It was not the first time the Australian storyteller talked about his story of becoming a quadruple amputee. Wherever he went, people used to get curious about his condition.
Many kids have asked him whether he is a robot, and he used to reply with a Yes. In 2019, Tom talked about his struggle at a TEDx conference.

A video clip of DJ Hookie from the ListenABLE podcast with Angus O’Loughlin and Dylan Alcott went viral on TikTok.
He said that he was always passionate about music and used to play guitar as a hobby before getting amputated.
His story has also been covered in the 2014 SBS The Feed short documentary. He has never let his illness hold back his life pursuits.
How Did DJ Hookie Lose His Limbs?
Suffering from Septicemia during his teenage, the DJ had to get all his four limbs amputated.
One morning Nash found himself drenched in a pool of blood, and he thought he was suffering from flu, which led to the late diagnosis of his disease.
He was in a coma for several weeks and was left with two choices- either amputate the limbs or let the infection kill him.
After losing his limbs, Tom was frustrated about not being able to play guitar. He consulted some engineers and told them to design a system so that he could work again.
Nash was given a slide system and robotic arms with hooks on his amputated limbs, and with the help of hooks, he could play any music he wanted.
The DJ continues entertaining the audience and making people groove to his beats.
