According to sources, Mercedes ISD Superintendent Carolyn Mendiola was arrested on Friday as a result of months of controversies in the district.
Officer Juan Morales verified that Mendiola was scheduled to be prosecuted in Alamo Municipal Court just after 2 p.m., and Mercedes school board President Oscar Hernandez said the school district’s counsel informed him of a warrant for Mendiola’s arrest shortly before noon.
According to Hernandez, the warrant is relevant to a current investigation. Several district workers have lately been arrested for a range of crimes.
It was not immediately apparent what charges Mendiola is facing or why she is being held in Alamo.

Some Facts About Carolyn Mendiola
In 2004, Mendiola moved to Mission, Texas, where she worked for 8 years as an Assistant Principal in Sharyland ISD until taking a job as a Middle School Administrator.
During her time in that position, she began investigating and launching Sharyland ISD’s Early College High School Model.
Likewise, she is recognized for founding the Sharyland Advanced Academic Academy, the first Early College High School, in 2014 and serving as its first campus principal.
Mendiola was appointed as Sharyland High School Principal shortly after, and she and her team worked hard for three years to win 21 out of 21 distinctions in the Texas Accountability System.
