Rochdale’s grooming gang leader Ahmed was reportedly convicted of two counts of rape, one sexual assault, trafficking, and conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child.

Greater Manchester Police had received an allegation of child sex abuse reportedly against Shabir Ahmed back in 2005. However, the officers chose not to inform the council.

If they had told the council ‘it may have potentially prevented the tragic abuse of other children. He left his council role and police informed the council in 2012 of a further allegation that occurred while Ahmed was part of the welfare team.

The men from Rochdale and Oldham were declared sentences ranging from four to 19 years. The 8 men include Adil Khan, Kabeer Hassan, Abdul Aziz, Abdul Rauf, Mohammed Sajid, Mohammaed Amin, Hamid Safi, and Abdul Qayyum.

The case was presented in a three-part British TV drama series named Three Girls which was broadcasted on 3 consecutive nights between 16 and 18 May 2017 on BBC One.
