Dereck Jamal Boykin Arrested For Assault On 17 Year Old
Dereck Jamal Boykin has been arrested and charged with rape and assault. He is still being jailed without being able to post bail.
He was seen on camera attacking a 17-year-old girl in broad daylight near a South San Jose school last month.
An attack occurred on Steinbeck Drive near Allen At Steinbeck Elementary School on March 24, shortly after 3 p.m. The man was captured minutes later. Her grandma began by saying that the teen was shaken but generally in good health.
Surveillance video shows the man pushing the child against a fence and wrestling with her.
According to authorities, the man initially looked to be wanting her pocketbook. While the fight went on, the guy threw her to the ground and straddled her, and the girl fought back and cried.
As onlookers offered aid, the man walked away.
According to San Jose police Officer Steve Aponte, those who were in the neighborhood and were aware of their surroundings helped solve the problem and prevent something worse from happening.
