Slingshot Strategies, a Democratic polling firm, released a poll the same day showing Hochul up by the same thin margin and Zeldin leading by 2 points among enthusiastic voters.
Hochul’s lead has shrunk due to Zeldin’s focus on crime. Republicans have pushed to make the midterms a public safety referendum nationwide. The argument resonates in New York, which recently passed sentencing reforms that increased the age of adult prosecution to 18 and eliminated cash bail for most low-level crimes, as per the Time.
