At approximately 12:11 pm, McKeesport officers responded to a disturbance complaint involving a domestic situation in the 1400 block of Wilson Street.

Police were informed of a mental health crisis and warned that he might be armed.

According to Allegheny County Police Superintendent Christopher Kearns, the man left without speaking to the officers.

The shooter is McKeesport resident Johnathan Jermia Morris, 31, who suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

A suspect in the Mckeesport shooting, Johnathan Morris, died and an officer, Sean Sluganski, was injured.

In the criminal complaint, Morris is alleged to have informed two witnesses that “the cops are trying to kill him” and asked them to record him as he walked along Grandview Avenue toward Versailles Avenue.

According to Kearns, “the guy abruptly drew a weapon and fired at the two McKeesport cops.”

Police discovered six round casings at the scene that matched the location where Morris fired at the two cops in the video.

According to the police, one of the officers was transported to UPMC McKeesport and later declared dead. A flight took the second officer to Pittsburgh.

At the intersection of Patterson Avenue and Versailles Avenue, the suspect encountered a third McKeesport Police officer.

As a result of a shooting exchange, the individual was injured after pulling out a gun and opening fire on the officer.

In an Allegheny County press statement, the officer who was slain was identified as Sean Sluganski, 32. Sluganski joined the department in January 2020 and worked for the force for two years.

Charles Thomas Jr., a 35-year-old Police officer, was the one who was hurt.

Thomas has been a police officer for four years, according to the county announcement. He was released from the hospital and is currently healing at home.

Amie M. Downs, the county’s communications director, described the death as terrible for the department and the community.

“We have lost a friend, a dependable coworker, and an officer whose passion was serving the public,” said the statement.

Police said earlier that Thomas and Morris were both in stable condition. Morris, who Kearns claimed was familiar to McKeesport police, was the subject of charges, he claimed.
