Lola McNally, Stevens’ roommate, and companion discovered Stevens dead on the kitchen floor of her Hollywood Hills residence. According to McNally, Stevens tried to talk but was unable to produce a sound as she opened her eyes and raised her head.

McNally informed the police that she had spoken to Stevens the night before and had not observed any signs of unrest. On the route to the hospital, Stevens passed away in the ambulance.

When medical personnel arrived, they took off a little bandage from her chin, revealing a small quantity of new blood flowing from a cut that looked to have occurred a few hours earlier.
