What Happened To George Stephanopoulos And Where Is He Going?

Nothing has happened to George Stephanopoulos, and he is not leaving GMA. He has always been a keen anchor for the show and will continue his journey in the GMA. 

George had positions as a democratic counselor and then as the director of communications for the White House before joining Good Morning America. In 1996, he ended his political career.

Since 2009, Massachusetts native George has served as a co-anchor on GMA. Over his career, he has conducted interviews with French President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. Presidents Joe Biden and George W. Bush.

George Stephanopoulos Early Life Explored 

Robert George Stephanopoulos and Nickolitsa “Nikki” Gloria Stephanopoulos’ son, George Stephanopoulos, was born in Fall River, Massachusetts. 

His parent’s ancestors are from Greek. His Father is a retired dean of the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City and a Greek Orthodox priest. His dad used to be a priest at Sts. 

His mother was the longtime director of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America National News Service, located at the Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

After spending some time in Purchase, New York, Stephanopoulos relocated to Cleveland’s eastern suburbs, where he attended Orange High School in Pepper Pike and received his diploma in 1978.

Stephanopoulos graduated as salutatorian of his class in 1982 and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Columbia University in New York.

He received a Harry S. Truman Scholarship and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa during his junior year at Columbia. 

He also provided sports commentary for the University’s radio station, 89.9 WKCR-FM. He resided in East Campus and Carman Hall while a student.

George accepted a position as an assistant to Democratic Congressman Ed Feighan of Ohio in Washington, D.C., assuring his Father that he would eventually enroll in law school. He was appointed Feighan’s staff Leader.

As a Rhodes Scholar, Stephanopoulos studied at Balliol College at the University of Oxford in England. In 1984, he received a Master of Arts in Theology.
