In the first 20 races of the season, Busch has eight top-10 finishes and is presently ranked 14th in the standings.

After Chris Trickle was hurt in an unsolved shooting, Busch got his big break. For the No. 70 team, the Star Nursery crew searched for a replacement for Trickle.

Kurt Busch’s promotion to the Winston Cup Series to take Chad Little’s seat in Roush’s No. 97 Ford for the 2001 season was announced by Roush Racing during the 2000 season. Busch took over the No. 97 John Deere-sponsored Ford at Dover in September 2000 when Little was ultimately released early.

With Jeff Hammond as his crew chief, Busch competed in seven of the final eight events (Little drove at Talladega). At Charlotte, Busch’s 13th-place result was his best performance.

Busch’s breakthrough year in the Winston Cup Series was the 2002 campaign. In the Food City 500 held at Bristol, he won his maiden race after a fierce duel with Jimmy Spencer, who was competing on worn tires.

He earned a second victory at Martinsville in October, followed by victories the following week at Atlanta and Homestead for the season finale. Busch finished third in the overall standings for the year due to his four victories, twelve Top 5 finishes, twenty Top 10 finishes, and one pole.

During qualifying on Saturday, Kurt Busch’s car came loose and slammed into the wall coming out of Turn 3. According to NASCAR, Busch was reevaluated Sunday following his incident and was not cleared to compete.

Busch and his younger brother Kyle publicly broke relations at the 2007 NEXTEL All-Star Challenge. The Busches were racing against each other with ten laps remaining in the race when their cars collided, knocking both out of the running for the victory.

Although Kevin Harvick prevailed to win the race, the media and public focused on the conflict between Kurt and Kyle. In the post-race festivities, Kyle and Kurt fought on the pit road and were furious.

At the end of the 2022 season, Kyle Busch is scheduled to become a free agent, and negotiations to re-sign with JGR appear to be on shaky ground because the team hasn’t been able to find a replacement sponsor for him in the wake of M&M Mars’ impending exit.
