Pearse Doherty began Leaders’ Questions by mentioning a private dinner held by Varadkar to commemorate Fine Gael’s ten years in power. He accused Leo of receiving money from Vegabonds.
He also mentioned the indifference that Varadkar had shown over time. Even during the time he held the private dinner, he said that ESRI had completed a report concluding that almost three in 10 households lived in energy poverty.

While all these allegations against Leo were heard, he quickly shot it back to Pearse, saying the corruption coming out of his mouth was surprising since he had been prosecuted too.
He further said that Pearse was once arrested for mistreating a garda. Although he got away with the conviction because of his age, it is not false that he was once prosecuted.
