Barricaded man prompts closure of Longmont school — A Longmont elementary school has canceled class Wednesday because of a barricaded person nearby.

Longmont officers responded to a domestic incident Tuesday night at 9:17 p.m. at 1549 Northwestern Rd. on the northwest side of the city. A neighbor reported that several people were arguing outside of the home and that a woman was strangled by her boyfriend.

Two women told a responding officer they had been assaulted, and that the suspect, 58-year-old Jesus Magallan, was inside the home with a handgun. Officers made contact with Magallan, but he refused to come out.

As of Wednesday morning, Magallan was still barricaded, which prompted nearby Longmont Estates Elementary School to close for the day.

The school posted on their website Wednesday morning that school would be canceled “due to the seriousness of the policy activity” as well as concerns about getting kids to school.

The Longmont SWAT team was able to take Magallan into custody at approximately 7:38 a.m. He is being charged with domestic violence, second-degree assault, third-degree assault and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Longmont Police Department at 303-651-8501 and refer to case no. 22-2487.
