Dale Warner Convicted of Murder After Wife's Body Found in Fertilizer Tank
  • Dee Warner planned to file for divorce the very morning she vanished after years of marital turmoil over money and businesses.
  • Her body was found perfectly preserved inside a welded shut fertilizer tank more than three years after she went missing.
  • Dale tracked his wife’s location over 2,100 times and searched online for “chemical cremation” after her disappearance.
  • Jurors focused on video footage showing Dale moving the tank and gathering welding supplies to reach their guilty verdict.

In a stunning conclusion to a case that haunted a Michigan community for five years, a jury has finally delivered justice for Dee Warner. Her husband, Dale Warner, now stands convicted of her brutal murder after her body was discovered sealed inside a rusted fertilizer tank on their own property.

The verdict, handed down in Lenawee County Circuit Court, brings a close to a heartbreaking saga that began with a mysterious disappearance in April 2021. It ended only after relentless determination from family and law enforcement uncovered the truth hidden in plain sight.

What Happened to Dee Warner in April 2021?

Dee Warner, a 52 year old mother of nine, was last seen alive on April 24, 2021, at the family farm in Franklin Township, Michigan. She had confided in friends that she planned to tell her husband she wanted a divorce and to sell their trucking business.

The following morning, Dale Warner texted his wife “going spraying, call you later,” but when her children arrived for breakfast, she was gone. He reportedly seemed unconcerned, suggesting she often left for days, while her family knew something was terribly wrong.

How Was Dee Warner’s Body Discovered in the Fertilizer Tank?

For over three years, Dee’s disappearance remained a frustrating mystery until August 16, 2024, when Michigan State Police made the grim discovery. Acting on a tip, they searched a property in Tipton and found an anhydrous ammonia tank that appeared to have been resealed.

Inside, investigators found Dee’s body wrapped tightly in blue tarps with her arms and legs bound by duct tape. The tank had been marked “out of service” and moved after police announced they would use cadaver dogs on the property.

What Was the Cause of Dee Warner’s Death?

Oakland County Deputy Medical Examiner Dr. Patrick Cho determined that Dee died from strangulation and blunt force trauma to her head and face. Her body showed bruises on her temples and the back of her head, along with damage to her tongue and throat consistent with strangulation.

Remarkably, the ammonia and lack of oxygen inside the sealed tank preserved her body, allowing experts to determine her death occurred on April 25, 2021. Toxicology tests revealed no trace of prescription drugs, contradicting Dale’s earlier claims to investigators.

Dale Warner Guilty Verdict: Family Reaction and Next Steps

After nine hours of deliberation over two days, the jury of seven men and five women found Dale Warner guilty of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. As the verdict was read, Dee’s family quietly cried and embraced while Dale showed little emotion.

Dee’s brother, Gregg Hardy, who led the five year “Justice for Dee” campaign, said he fought every day for validation and could hardly believe they finally achieved victory for his sister. Dale Warner now faces up to life in prison when sentenced on May 7, 2026.
