A man was shot and injured at a large house party in Orange Wednesday night, Aug. 4, and police were searching for the shooter, authorities said.

Orange police were responding to the party, at a house in the 500 block of South Prospect Street south of La Veta Avenue, just after 10 p.m. when a neighbor called and said they heard gunshots and saw a car fleeing, Sgt. Phil McMullin said.

Officers arrived and detained about 30 people at the house but did not make any arrests, McMullin said.

Other officers found the car in the area of Tustin and Chapman avenues and saw the driver had been struck by gunfire, he said. The victim was hospitalized and expected to survive.

Police said they did not know if he was the intended victim, nor if he was headed to a hospital.

Detectives were sorting out whether the shooter was among those detained at the house or whether the suspect may have fled after firing, McMullin said.
