Bill Gates was in the stands to watch 19-year-old Spanish tennis phenom Carlos Alcaraz defeat 22-year-old Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime during the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Thursday (March 16) in Indian Wells, Calif.
In all three of their previous head-to-head matches, Carlos lost to Felix but today got his revenge, prevailing in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Watch the video highlights below!
“I probably played one of my best matches this season,” Carlos said after his win.
On Saturday, Carlos will move on to the semi-finals and face Italy’s 21-year-old Jannik Sinner, with whom he has a friendly rivalry. They are tied in their head-to-head matches, 2-2.
“I’m really happy to play against [Jannik] again,” Carlos said. “Great battles. I enjoy the matches against him. I can say it’s going to be a really good match, for the fans as well, and for myself as well. I’ll try to show my best, to show my 100%. Jannik is playing well, so I’m going to enjoy that match.”
Earlier in the day, Jannik won against the Indian Wells defending champion Taylor Fritz, who stars in Netflix’s tennis docu-series, Break Point. Part 2 returns June 2023!
