While returning home from celebrating his daughter’s birthday, Keith Smith told detectives that his wife attempted to give a panhandling couple $10 near the intersection of East Chase and Valley streets. He said the panhandlers stabbed his wife and snatched her necklace and pocketbook.

After Keith killed his wife, her husband, Keith Smith, and his daughter left the city. Three months later, they were apprehended around 1,700 miles from Maryland and close to the border with Mexico.

The victim’s family said Jacquelyn loved her husband and wanted their marriage to work.

Her husband and daughter brutally killed Jacquelyn and then blamed murder by passing it on to the panhandler.

A BPD officer went to Johns Hopkins Hospital on December 1, 2018, at around 12:34 in the AM, about a stabbing. When they arrived, the medical staff informed the officer that an adult female with many stab wounds was taken to the hospital by her husband.

Her husband, Keith Tyrone Smith, recognized the victim as Jacquelyn Anne Smith. Mrs. Smith was declared dead at 12:48 in the morning despite attempts by medical personnel to save her.

A Baltimore City jury found Keith guilty of all charges of first-degree murder and carrying a weapon to cause injury for stabbing his wife, Jacquelyn Smith.

As per the crime convicted, Keith could imprison to life in prison plus three years. The judgment date is February 28, 2022.

Valeria Smith gave false testimony against her father to receive a reduced prison term. Valeria Smith was given a five-year jail term in December along with three years of probation by a Baltimore City Circuit Court judge.

Speaking to reporters Thursday outside the Mitchell Courthouse, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby said she was proud of the jury’s verdict and the work of law enforcement.

On December 3, 2018, BPD detectives responded to the Medical Examiner’s Office and were advised that the victim, Jacquelyn Smith, was stabbed five times in the chest area and cut once on the lower right arm. After the autopsy, the cause and manner of death were ruled a homicide by sharp force injuries.

On March 3, 2019, Keith Smith and his daughter Valeria Smith were apprehended in Texas, approximately 20 miles from the Mexico border. Valeria Smith subsequently admitted that the panhandler story was a hoax by Keith Smith and that she witnessed it when he killed Jacquelyn in Druid Hill Park.
