Who Are Jane Roe and Henry Wade? Wade, ending the constitutional right to abortion after almost 50 years.

Who Were Jane Roe And Henry Wade?

Jane Roe, born on September 22, 1947, as Norma McCorvey was a true name for an American who supported abortion rights. She pursued the famous Roe v. Wade case, which led to the 1970s legalization of abortion.

At that time, it was illegal to have surgery for abortion unless a woman’s life was in danger. The unmarried 22-year-old led the abortion rights movement for a portion of the two decades only to switch sides in the 1990s.

While, Henry Menasco Wade, the Wade of Roe v. Wade landmark, was a district attorney from 1951 to 1987. He took part in two significant 20th-century court cases in the United States, the first being the case of Lee Harvey Oswald’s murder, and the second the Roe v. Wade decision which legalized abortion.

Jane Roe when seeking an abortion in Texas in 1969, her journey to the epicenter of one of the largest scandals in American history began. She made the decision to terminate her third pregnancy after having already given her first two daughters up for adoption.

At that time, abortion was permitted in New York but Roe could not afford to fly to other states for having the service. She then fought for the cause and led a revolution asking for abortion to be legal.

The Roe v. Wade case was taken up by the Supreme Court in 1971, and after two years, the court issued a decision recognizing the right to an abortion. However, what shocked thousands of people is Jane Roe changing her side to becoming a pro-life advocate.

Not only that but, she also found her own anti-abortion group and traveled all across the nation protesting the abortion practice. She further tried to take down the 1973 landmark in 2005.

In the end, on her deathbed, a few months before she passed away in 2017, Roe confessed that she had changed as she was paid to do so.

The overruling of Roe v. Wade had made a stir in early May when a leaked draft opinion was published by Politico that time, stating that it will result in the division of the country where abortion is severely restricted or forbidden in many red states, still free in most blue ones.

In the current decision, chief justice John G. Roberts Jr. voted with the majority. He however added that he would have taken a more measured course.

Within an hour of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, there is a whole crowd at the section of the street outside the Supreme Court. There is a presence of both celebrators and protestors in the swarm.

Some of the activists reacted by saying they still will defy the efforts to restrict abortion even though it becomes illegal in some selected states.
