Chambers suffered breathing difficulties, collapsed at the mall, and was later sent to the local hospital.
After some time, doctors announced her death, and she was dead before taking to the hospital.
Chambers was very passionate and focused on her work and career; most often, she started Hawai’i in its first season as a staff writer after being promoted to story editor for series two.

Yakira’s family wrote: “Her sudden and untimely death has left us all grief-stricken. Yakira was a light, a symbol of hope to our community, a steward of our culture, and a representation of what pursuing your dreams looks like.”
They added, “Yakira’s passion extended beyond her daily work in the business; she loved helping others create a way out of no way. She believed in equity and the demarginalization of persons of color to create a level playing field for all.”
Chambers was with her mother, Constance Chambers, when she suffered from acute asphyxia, and when she released the news in her statement, she said, “I miss her and will love her to eternity. I don’t know what I will do without her.”

Along with her family, Hawai members shared a tribute to their staff writer the day after her death.
Vanessa Lachey, a colleague of Chambers, mourns the loss and shared a post on December 5 along with her picture; she said in her seat, “It’s been a difficult week for our NCIS Hawai’i Ohana as we mourn the sudden loss of one of our talented writers, Yakira Chambers,”
Vanessa added, “All of the stories you see us bring to life on the screen started in the writing room, and Yakira specifically wrote some of my favorite moments.”
