Ryan Guzman, who plays Eddie Díaz on 9-1-1, recently shared his thoughts about the emotional farewell scene in the season 7 finale. In this episode, Eddie has to say goodbye to his son Christopher, who has chosen to live with his grandparents.

The tension between them stems from Christopher’s struggle to forgive Eddie for cheating on Marisol with someone who looks a lot like his late mother. This has pushed Christopher to distance himself from his dad.

Guzman reflected on the challenging nature of that scene in an interview with TVLine. “It was really tough,” he admitted.

“I found my personal feelings seeping into my performance, and I kept thinking about how I would communicate this moment to my own son. How do I express that this is going to hurt me deeply, while still being strong for him and supporting his choice? It was a lot to handle.”

He also hinted at what’s in store for Eddie in season 8, suggesting that there will be some significant growth and self-exploration ahead.

“For sure, in the first episode of Season 8, we probably won’t see Eddie and Christopher together,” Guzman mentioned. He’s optimistic that this time apart will allow Eddie to reassess his life and delve into new aspects of his character.
