Jacob Duffy is a professional New Zealand cricketer. He plays the role of a right-arm pacer and represents the national team in the T20 and ODI formats. A strongly built, tall and lanky, right-arm seamer, Jacob Duffy became the second player from the Southland region of New Zealand to represent the Kiwis in international cricket, Jeff Wilson was the first in 1993. Duffy went from strength to strength and after putting up a couple of brilliant seasons he was named the skipper of the Otago white-ball team, he has been among the most consistent performers in domestic cricket and has also been impressive for New Zealand A in recent times. He has been a dependable bowler over the years and has hardly had a bad season since he made his debut.
Duffy can hit hard lengths and extract extra bounce from the pitch, but it is his ability to pitch the ball up and swing it which makes him an exciting addition to New Zealand’s seam attack. Duffy can be very effective in seaming conditions and can move the ball both ways as well, making it very tricky for the batters in the middle. He was added to the national side on the back of a six-wicket haul against the touring West Indians in a four-day fixture. Jacob was the leading wicket-taker, with 22 wickets in five matches in the 2019-20 Plunket Shield and the second-highest wicket-taker with 20 scalps in the 2019-2020 season of the Ford Trophy.

Duffy takes the duty to bowl the tough overs at the death and has been mighty effective, he has been one of the highest wicket-takers in the past five years in New Zealand’s domestic T20 competition. He has grabbed 15 wickets in 18 innings in the slog overs making him one of the most lethal bowlers in modern-day cricket. Unfortunately, Duffy went unsold in the Indian Premier League auction but still has a long way to go. He has been the star performer for Otago and will lead the team in 2023 as well. Duffy can also chip in with runs down the order and has the ability to stick around with his defensive skills. The right-arm pacer has been excellent with the new ball and has consistently given good starts to his team in the powerplay, his uncanny ability to pick up wickets and break partnerships makes him a valuable player in any team.
