Zinedine Zidane has admitted there is uncertainty over his future as manager of Real Madrid as he explained the job ‘takes a lot out of you’.

The Frenchman, who is in his second stint as Los Blancos boss, revealed that he will not be discussing a contract extension any time soon, with his current deal set to expire next year in 2022.

Zidane first took the hot seat at the Bernabeu in 2016 and resigned two years later in 2018 before returning to the Spanish club the following year.

He remained coy when questioned over his future at Madrid as he admitted the job can be a rather stressful one.

‘It takes a lot out of you, but it’s a great position here,’ Zidane replied when asked whether he’d sign a new four-year deal.

‘I’m lucky enough to say I’m manager of Real Madrid and take advantage of every moment. I can’t say a month, a year or four years. Life is just about the day to day.

‘That’s what I’m interested in: the day to day, to give everything I can, in every training session, every game. That’s what I’m interested in.

‘The rest? I don’t know what’s going to happen in one week. That’s why we have to take advantage of the moment.’

Zidane has tasted success from his first season, as he became the first to win three consecutive Champions League titles and has also led Madrid to two LaLiga triumphs.

However, this season the league’s title race has been swung wide open after slow starts from Madrid and their rivals Barcelona.

Zidane’s side can briefly take top spot in the division above their rivals Atletico Madrid if they beat Celta Vigo on Saturday, but Atleti already have two games in hand on them.

Despite this, the 48-year-old is not overly concerned about their rivals advantage just yet.

‘Being first means you have an advantage, and that’s it,’ Zidane explained.

‘We just have to keep on going. We can’t control [Atleti being favourites].

‘They have an advantage because they’re first, and that’s it. People are speaking a lot about Atletico now, because, as I said, they’re first.

‘But the nice thing about this league, right up until the end, it’s going to be an open league – as it always is. We’ll see.’
