Who Is Ashley Biden’s Husband, Dr. Howard Krein?

Dr. Howard Krein, a 59-year-old plastic surgeon and otolaryngologist, met Ashley in 2010 through her late brother, Beau Biden. Their love story began under bittersweet circumstances—Beau, who later passed from brain cancer, introduced them while hospitalized after a stroke.

Joe Biden once recalled: “When Ashley walked in the room panicked about her brother and jumped in bed with him… Howard was at the foot of the bed visiting. After it was all over, Howard walked up to Beau and said, ‘Beau, you think you could set me up with your sister?'”

The couple married in 2012 in a Catholic-Jewish ceremony at St. Joseph on the Brandywine, where Ashley was baptized. Krein, a professor at Thomas Jefferson University, also advised the Biden campaign on health policy during the 2020 election.
