Despite her established career, Seyfried revealed she went through a grueling six-audition process over multiple years to land the role of Glinda—a part that ultimately went to pop superstar Ariana Grande.

In a candid discussion on Backstage’s In the Envelope podcast, Seyfried shared how she balanced these auditions while filming The Dropout, where she played Elizabeth Holmes—a role that earned her an Emmy. Her dedication to the Wicked audition process highlights the fierce competition in Hollywood and her relentless pursuit of artistic growth.

The Six-Audition Marathon for Glinda

Seyfried’s journey to play Glinda was anything but easy. She auditioned six times, refining her vocal performance and even recording a rendition of Popular for director Jon M. Chu.

“I auditioned like six times for Wicked because that had to be really just right,” Seyfried admitted. “I barely had time to do it, but I made it work. I worked my ass off for years and years on that music.”.

“I literally bent over backwards while playing the hardest role of my life,” she recalled. “But I think it also taught me how far I’ve come as a singer, which I really wanted to prove.”.
