Her most recent episode aired on March 16, 2022. Maia told TVLine that she is returning to Australia to be with her family. For nearly a decade, the 28-year-old actress has played Callie. For the job, she relocated from her native Australia.
“When I was quite young, I moved to America [from Australia]. Being away from family has been quite difficult for me, to be honest. I practically spent my entire twenties in another country, which I wouldn’t have done if it weren’t for my job “TVLine spoke with Maia. “The Fosters cast and crew provided me with so much warmth and family, and then there was Good Trouble.”
According to Maia, the epidemic was the turning point. Despite her desire to be with her family, she proceeded to film Good Trouble. “It just got to be a little much for me,” she explained. “‘I simply need to be allowed to be at home right now,’ I said. When you go through something like that, it makes everything very apparent, and I simply realised it was time to put my family and my mental health first. It was a difficult decision to make.”

In an interview with The Urban List, Maia remarked, “I was flown out by Disney Channel to shoot a pilot and a feature for them, and when I was in LA it became quite evident that this was where the possibilities would be for me.” “I found an apartment, but the pilot I had shot was not picked up, so I ran out of money after a few months. While filming The Fosters pilot, I slept on couches and eventually had to return home with my parents.”
“The next year, I was in Los Angeles for a week filming a Disney Channel promo, but on set, I got the call that The Fosters had been picked up for series, and I’ve been living here ever since,” she continued. “In a nutshell, I got lucky.”
“I don’t think this is the last we’ll see of Callie,” said Joanna Johnson, the show’s co-creator.
After learning of Maia’s plans to return to Australia, Joanna, the co-creator of Good Trouble, told Variety that she tried to persuade her to alter her decision. “So, I want to talk about Season 4, and I want to beg you to remain,” she explained. “We tried many different methods to try to talk her out of it,” she said, adding that she and the cast “tried many different ways to try to talk her out of it.” Joanna then attempted to persuade Maia to film a few episodes for Season 4, to which she consented.
“She’ll always be a part of the family,” Joanna added, “and I don’t think it’ll be the last time we see Callie.” “Callie’s trip is taking place behind the scenes, but we’ll follow her.”
