Wendi Mae Davidson, a local veterinarian, reported her husband Sgt. Michael Severance missed his supervisors at the Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene in January 2005.
The military launched an investigation after his disappearance, believing he may have gone AWOL.
Wendi Mae Davidson stood to receive approximately $500,000 in insurance payouts if her husband died, police discovered as they examined the situation more closely.

Even worse, a forensic check of her computer revealed that she had looked up material on decomposition in water, indicating that Wendi had most certainly murdered her five-month-old spouse and dumped his body in water.
Michael Leslie Severance was found dead after receiving an overdose of euthanasia medications, according to an autopsy report.

Wendi was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder and ten years each for the other two offenses in November 2006.
She is still detained at the Dr. Lane Murray Unit in Gatesville, Texas, according to prison records. Wendi, who was around 40 years old at the time, was rejected parole in 2019.
Her release date has been set for 2031.
