The ten most expensive January signings in history – The January transfer window is just around the corner and clubs will all be aiming to bolster their teams ahead of the remainder of the season.
The window has been seen by many managers as a mid-season distraction, but in recent years, more and more bosses are delving into the market to add reinforcements to their squads.

Luis Diaz joined Liverpool in January last season in a big money move to join a host of huge names to find a new club as the new years begins.
But what are other the priciest January signings of all time? talkSPORT.com has explored the ten most expensive moves to date.
10. Luis Diaz, £52m, Porto to Liverpool, 2022
Diaz joined Liverpool in January of this year and the winger took the Premier League by storm.
He slotted in with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, replacing Sadio Mane who was sold in the summer before the season began.
Diaz played a key role in helping the Reds make the Champions League final in his first campaign but he has unfortunately suffered an injury that has ruled him out for a few months.

9. Oscar, £52m, Chelsea to Shangai Port, 2017
Brazilian star Oscar was one of the biggest names to make the move to China in 2017.
The former Chelsea midfielder made the big-money move to Shanghai Port five years ago and he is still on their books.
He has made 120 appearances in total during that time, scoring 35 goals.
8. Diego Costa, £52m, Chelsea to Atletico Madrid, 2018
Chelsea are again involved in the top January deals, this time with Diego Costa.
He led the Blues to two Premier League titles, playing a key role under now Tottenham boss Antonio Conte. Costa scored 52 goals in 89 appearances before heading back to Spain for a second spell at Atletico Madrid.
The Spaniard’s career has dipped since then and after a year out of the game, he made a comeback to the top flight as he joined Wolves this summer.

7. Bruno Fernandes, £54m, Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United, 2020
Bruno Fernandes has become one of the best creators in the Premier League after joining Manchester United two years ago.
The Portuguese international has now made 100 appearances for the club and is the key man under Erik ten Hag.
His price tag seems like a bargain after the impact he has made for the Red Devils.

6. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, £55m, Borussia Dortmund to Arsenal, 2018
The Gabon international is another player to make a big money move to England. and he hit the ground running immediately in north London, scoring ten goals in 12 starts.
He would go on to score 68 goals in 128 games for the Gunners before things turned sour with manager Mikel Arteta.
Aubameyang was frozen out at the club and after four years, he moved to Barcelona before returning to the Premier League this season with Chelsea.

5. Christian Pulisic – £56m, Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea, 2019
A year later, Christian Pulisic joined the list and followed Aubameyang to England from Borussia Dortmund.
Pulisic became Chelsea’s second most expensive signing ever after Alvaro Morata and was sent back on loan to Dortmund for the remainder of the season after joining.
He has fell slightly out of favour over the last two seasons but remains a key asset for the Blues.

4. Aymeric Laporte – £57m, Athletic Bilbao to Manchester City, 2018
Aymeric Laporte joined Manchester City during their 2017/18 title-winning season but did not immediately break into the starting line-up.
However, he has become a regular for Pep Guardiola’s side and has been impressive at the heart of the defence with his ability on the ball.
Laporte has gone on to win four Premier League titles as well as one FA Cup and three Carabao Cups.

3. Dusan Vlahovic, £71m, Fiorentina to Juventus, 2022
In the only top transfer that doesn’t include a Premier League side, Dusan Vlahovic joins some huge names with one of the most expensive moves.
The Serbian striker made the switch to Juventus last year after Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United, leaving a space for a goalscorer in Turin.
He has yet to make an impact since joining after injuries have plagued his form.

2. Virgil van Dijk, £74m, Southampton to Liverpool, 2018
Virgil van Dijk joined Jurgen Klopp’s side for what was the world-record fee for a defender at the time.
The price has proved to be worth it with the centre-back ever-present since his signing. He has been the main man in Liverpool’s defence with many arguing he is the greatest Premier League defender of all time.
van Dijk lifted the Premier League title in 2019 as he led the Reds to their first-ever title win.
1. Philippe Coutinho, £117m, Liverpool to Barcelona, 2018
After 152 games for Liverpool, Philippe Coutinho made a move away from the Premier League.
He became one of the most expensive players ever as he joined Barcelona but this transfer was one that ultimately brought an end to his European career.
Coutinho would slip out of favour and he then made a loan move to Bayern Munich before joining Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa earlier this year.
He has now signed a permanent deal with the Villans and is aiming to regain his best form under Unai Emery.
