Guyger claims she mistook the room for her own, which is located on the same floor as Jean’s. Because Guyger was a white woman and Jean was a black man, the case sparked racial tensions in Texas, and people all around the world demanded justice.

Amber Guyger Verdict: Where Is She Now & Why Did She Kill Botham Jean

Amber Guyger is currently serving her prison sentence at the Mountain View Unit after the jury found her guilty of the murder of Botham Jean on September 6, 2018. She is not eligible for parole before 2024.

Former Dallas Police Department Patrol Officer Amber Guyger fatally shot Botham Jean in his own apartment in Dallas. Guyger said that she entered Jean’s apartment at the night thinking it was her own and shot him believing he was an intruder.

On October 1, 2019, Guyger was found guilty of murder and was imprisoned for ten years without an option of parole for five years.

Martin Rivera is the police officer who Amber admits to have had an intimate relationship in the past. Apparently, Amber was sexting Martin before, during, and after the murder via Snapchat.

Martin Rivera was the patrol partner and the mentor of Amber Guyger, who deleteed her texts with him which was later revealed to contain racial languages and related to the murder. Amber admitted deleting the texts in fears that he was a married man.

In a previous incident, Martin Rivera shot Brandon Washington in the head and leg outside a convenience store in 2007, where he allegedly committed a crime. Brandon, who was an unarmed black man, was apparently shot for a candy.

Amber Guyger Age Details Explored

Ms. Guyger was 31 years old during the incident. She is currently, 33 years old.

On the other hand, Botham Jean was just 26 when he was fatally shot by Amber. His family has forgiven Amber in the subsequent court hearing.

Ex-police officer Guyger is currently imprisoned in Mountain View Correctional Center. Though her sentence runs until September 2029, she will be eligible for parole after September 2024.
