Garth Crooks Departure From BBC

Garth Crooks made his final appearance on Final Score on Saturday.

Crooks was the first black chairman of the Professional Footballers’ Association during his playing career, a position he relinquished two years later after quitting due to injury. In 1999, he received an OBE for his contributions to football.

Since the news of Crooks’ leaving surfaced, fans have paid respect to him on social media. “Legend,” one supporter tweeted, while another added, “Nice chap, all the best Garth.”

Crooks has covered numerous major sporting events for BBC Sport, including various World Cups, Euros, and the 2012 London Olympics. He’s also appeared on Match of the Day several times.

Garth Crooks Wife & Children

Garth Crooks has a wife named Funkazi Crooks. However, we have no information on when they married.

Preye Crooks, the couple’s daughter, was born.

Crooks was born in Bucknall, Stoke-on-Trent, to Jamaican parents. After graduating through the youth divisions at Stoke City, he signed professional contract terms in March 1976.

In April, he made his debut for Stoke City against Coventry City, becoming the club’s first black player since Roy Brown in the 1940s.

Crooks represented England at the international level, appearing four times for the England under-21s and scoring three goals.
