A company’s spokesperson said that the diver was inspecting one of the intakes and screens when he lost communication with a worker on the shore.
Later, officials in Kentucky said the diver drowned while checking pipelines in the Ohio River. Forensics reports showed that Wood died at around 1:03 p.m on the same day.
The cause of Wood’s drowning was unknown at the time, but the LMPD continued their investigation.

Coach Anderson had trained Jaxxyn for six years and had known him since Jaxxyn was four years old. The instructor characterized him as someone who was always physically active and liked being in the water.
Wood had graduated from high school and worked as a commercial diver. Everyone who knew Wood was aware of his underwater abilities, so it came as no surprise.
Jaxxyn had made national news in 2013 when he saved his family from a fire. Wood was just 12 years old at the time, and he had been staying up late playing video games when he noticed the fire.
