Liverpool: Joe Gomez Face and Leg Scar After England Sterling Fight – What Happened?

In 2019, at Wembley Joe Gomez was booed after Raheem Sterling instigated an altercation and left Liverpool’s No. 12 with a cut on his face. Sterling came out and said that it was “wrong.”

He said, It was wrong for Gomez for something that was his fault, but there was a sense that there was not as emphatic of a response compared to Maguire.

Liverpool fans pointed out the hypocrisy on social media with a nonstop flow of comments. Twitter is full of criticism over how Joe was not fairly treated as Maguire.

An upset fan tweeted a post on Twitter, “Harry Kane’s Instagram after Joe Gomez got booed on against Montenegro. “A perfect night”.”

There are pictures of Joe Gomez on social media that showed his face and leg scar after the England sterling fight broke out. The Liverpool center-back was left with a scar underneath his right eye after the Man City star was put in a headlock in November 2020.

Harry Maguire was booed before and at the start of the fixture by supporters. England beat Ivory Coast 3-0 in their friendly at Wembley on Tuesday night. Gareth Southgate, Jordan Henderson, and others spoke out for Maguire.

But Liverpool fans are all asking if the reaction was the same for Joe Gomez when he was subject to boos.

Joe Gomez was hit by Sterling and had a scratch under his eyes. In addition, he was booed by the knuckle draggers and had racial abuse on social media.

However, what all happened to him, there was no treatment to him like the treatment was given to Maguire. Fans have been noticing the difference in how people are reacted.

Is it due to his race or ethnicity? Despite we talk a lot about equality, over and time again, there is proof that some discrimination against a race is still there.

But the biggest story to emerge from the night was Maguire being subject to boos as his name was read out before kick-off at Wembley, with his first touch also receiving jeers.

After the match, the response from manager Southgate and his international teammates was swift, each condemning the “absolute joke” of the response by some of the crowd on Tuesday night.

But while the likes of Harry Kane, Jack Grealish, Declan Rice and Henderson all, rightly, condemned the reaction to the Man United defender, Liverpool fans were all left thinking the same thing.

Was this very same reaction just as strong for Joe Gomez when he was subject to boos at Wembley in 2019 after Raheem Sterling instigated an altercation and left Liverpool’s No. 12 with a cut on his face?

Sterling notably came out and said that it was “wrong” for Gomez to have been booed “for something that was my fault,” but there was a sense that there was not as emphatic of a response compared to Maguire.
