After disagreeing with the way the final two candidates were shortlisted, the group resigned last week. “Wakefield needs a fresh start, “Lightwood said after a vote by local members on Sunday afternoon,” according to bbc.com.

Lightwood, a member of the Labour Party’s National Policy Forum, was nominated with Kate Dearden, a Community trade unionist. He expressed his gratitude for being chosen after his selection.

Lightwood stated, “For over a year, Wakefield has been without an MP and a voice in Westminster. The Conservatives must now organize a by-election to ensure that local residents receive the representation they deserve.”

He seems to be focused on his career. “I joined the Labour Party here in Wakefield twenty years ago, and I lived educated and worked in this magnificent city for ten years,” he remarked.

“We have a lot to be proud of in Wakefield, and our community has a lot of strength and resilience.” The by-election comes after Conservative MP Imran Ahmad Khan resigned following his conviction for physically assaulting a youngster.
