Specialized investigators were searching through the wreckage of the two helicopters that collided above the Gold Coast as they looked for clues to the disaster, which claimed the lives of four individuals.

The two Sea World Helicopters-operated helicopters crashed on New Year’s Day while performing joy flights over the Broadwater near the theme park.

In order to determine what caused the crash, workers from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) are presently looking at the debris, watching video of the collision, and consulting with witnesses and operators.

Update: Gold Coast Helicopter Crash Video Reddit

Reddit is flooded with videos of the midair collision between two helicopters on the Gold Coast.

The exact cause of the two helicopters colliding in midair is still unknown, but according to ATSB Chief Commissioner Angus Mitchell, the crash happened 200 to 300 meters in the air on Monday at around 2:00 pm.

He claimed that at the time of the crash, one helicopter with seven people on board was taking off, and another helicopter with six people aboard was making a landing. The landing helicopter’s front section sustained “considerable damage” when the helicopter’s main rotors collided with the helicopter taking off.

As a result, the ascending aircraft’s main rotor blades and gearbox split apart, and the aircraft crashed down onto the sandbar.

Mr. Mitchell remarked that the second helicopter’s ability to land upright was remarkable. According to the ATSB, critical flight phases where pilots’ cognitive load is at its highest are takeoff and landing.

Four Dead And Three Are In Critical Condition After Crash

Four adults and the helicopter’s pilot, who was about to take off, were killed in the collision. They were 36, 40, 57, and 65 years old.

Pilot Ashley Jenkinson of Sea World Helicopters perished in the collision. Friends have described him as a “true legend” who assisted in rescuing stranded residents and delivering food during flooding in the Northern Rivers. A couple of the two adults were thought to be British citizens. From Glenmore Park, New South Wales comes the second victim.

One of the deceased individuals was related to one of the survivors, according to Acting Inspector Mike Campbell of the Queensland Police. According to Police, a mother and son and another child were among the three additional victims who had critical injuries.

Along with a 10-year-old boy from New South Wales, critically injured victims included 33-year-old Winnie De Silva of Geelong and her 9-year-old son. Three of them are still in the hospital.
