Phindile Xaba, a well-known South African journalist who previously worked as the Sowetan Ladies Editor, died at 53 years old. She died of cancer and was laid to rest at her home in Diepkloof, Soweto.

Mpho Mothapo, a family spokeswoman, said her family was grieved by her death but was comforted by the outpouring of support from her associates and business colleagues.

Former Sowetan Women Editor Xaba contributed to journals and newspapers such as True Love, City Press, St. Petersburg Times (USA), The Journalist, and The New Age. She was a member of the communications team in the office of Chana Pilane-Majake, the deputy minister of public service and administration when she died.

In her role as editor of REAL, she also contributed to the creation of a healing platform for women.
