Danehower is “an acquaintance of the family,” City of Fairfax Police Department Capt. Jeff Hunt said at a news conference Wednesday morning. Law enforcement and family sources say the connection may have come through church. It wasn’t immediately clear if Danehower has a lawyer.

Glyer was shot in his bed as he slept next to his wife, police said. Their children were home at the time, according to police radio transmissions.

Detectives received information in interviews that named Danehower as a possible suspect, police said. No information on a possible motive was immediately released.

Joshua Danehower is a suspect arrested by police for the murder of the DonorSee founder Gret Glyer based in Fairfax.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday night, June 28, 2022. Police trailed him from his hometown of Arlington to the Dulles International Airport and arrested him at the airport, where he used to work as an employee for FedEx.

“We are confident that there are no known threats to our community at this time,” a police captain told reporters.

News4 was there as police towed Danehower’s car, a light-colored Nissan Altima, from outside FedEx, where he worked at the airport.

Glyer founded a charitable giving platform called DonorSee and had worked to build a school for girls in Malawi, in southeastern Africa.

It was revealed by the City of Fairfax Police Department Captain that Joshua Danehower was a family acquaintance. It is still unclear how he was related to the family.

Glyer’s Wife: Said His Legacy Will Live On

“Gret was my best friend and an incredible husband and father. He had an amazing heart for helping the people who need it most, and I know that legacy will live on. I know that God is with me and has a plan for my life and for the lives of our children. We would appreciate your prayers,” she said in a statement.

Owen O’Doherty is now interim CEO of DonorSee. He mourned the loss of his colleague.

“I couldn’t believe that something like this could happen to such a shining light in this world,” he said. “[…] He had a passionate mission to end extreme poverty for the poorest ten percent of the world’s population.”

Outside the family’s home on Friday, Glyer’s mother was comforted by people who came by to offer their condolences. She declined to comment.

Danehower was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He was held without bond. Calls to his family were not returned.
