Brands Cutting Ties Over Kanye West’s Anti-Semitic Statements - Why did Kanye Leave Adidas?

Why did Kanye Leave Adidas? Following the decision by major corporations to sever relations and cease agreements, Kanye West, who adopted the moniker “Ye,” is in hot water. The rapper, who has been outspoken about his ideas, is now under criticism after his offensive comments, which included anti-Semitic remarks, surfaced in the media.

Ye is currently being boycotted by all the bands and celebrities as a result of his offensive words after unaired footage from the Tucker, Carlson interview was made public and added gasoline to the recent anti-Semitic sentiments.

Recently, Adidas, the brand collaborating with Ye even after his Paris Fashion Week fiasco has dropped any ties with Kanye. Now, the rapper is in deep trouble, and here are the full details of what went on.

What did Kanye West Say That was Anti-Semitic?

Kanye West’s downfall began much before his Adidas Paris Fashion show where Ye shocked the fans with a “White Lives Matter” t-shirt on the runway. Though this had led to Adidas putting their contract with Ye under review, things worsened with Ye’s anti-Semitic comments.

In May 2018, when Kanye was still married to Kim Kardashian, he expressed a controversial opinion on TMZ by saying that “slavery was a choice”. This TMZ interview was the first shocking point for the fans since he could pass certain statements despite being a part of the black community himself.

The series of head-turning statements continued since in October of 2018 he declared his support for President Donal Trump and visited him in his Oval office before confirming about running for president in 2019.

After his relationship was over with Kim, he harassed Kim’s then-boyfriend Pete Davidson and was motivating fans to be ruthless with him. Ye also nicknamed him “Skete”.

However, with the break-up of Kim and Davidson, things worsened since the Yeezy fashion show in Paris Fashion Week saw Ye wearing and dressing up models with “White Lives Matter”. It was done with Candace Owens, a conservative commentator that led the fashion industry riot against him.

Then Ye went to be interviewed on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News Show and just uttered unwanted claims regarding abortion before. He even commented on singer Lizzo’s appearance which clearly made him portray as fatphobic.

But it took a different turn when on 9th October, Ye tweeted about going “death con 3” on Jewish people.

He further stated that he is in no way anti-Semitic since “black people are actually Jew[s] also”. Post that, Ye’s social media accounts got blocked.

Matters went out of control when VICE’s “Motherboard” dropped an unaired video from the Carlson interview on 11th October 2022. Shocking remarks were revealed and the entire situation rightfully went against Ye.

In the interview, Ye says “Jew” when referencing “the 12 lost tribes of Judah … who the people known as the race Black really are.” He further added to the conversation by falsely claiming why Planned Parenthood was formed in the first place and said it was done to “control the Jew population.”

His comments on antisemitism continued even in interviews with Piers Morgan and Chris Cuomo.

While talking to Cuomo, Ye said, “This is not hate speech,” “This is the truth.” “There’s so many Black musicians signed to Jewish record labels and those Jewish record labels take ownership … of the culture itself,” “It’s like a modern day slavery, and I’m calling it out. That’s what ‘death con 3’ meant. It didn’t mean I wished any harm on my fellow Jewish people.”

Ye has been previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder. But with this phase, things are taking a turn for the worst.

Why did Kanye Leave Adidas?

During the Drink Champs Podcast of 16th October, Kanye said, “I can say antisemitic shit, and Adidas can’t drop me”.

But it seems like he was guessing it all wrong. On 24th October, Adidas terminated all sorts of partnerships with Ye. The partnership was already under review after his unprecedented “White Lives Matter” movement. The brand has released a statement about ending its partnership with Kanye West that granted “immediate effect”.

Adidas is a leading sportswear brand that partnered with the rapper for launching its line of exclusive Yeezy shoes and clothing. This was a successful venture and Adidas did make a huge profit with the collaboration. But on Tuesday, the brand clearly stated in a lengthy statement its official decision to cut off any ties with Adidas.

In one part of the statement, the brand stated that it “does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech”. So the yearlong partnership is over.

Kanye is living the worst nightmare since almost all the brands associated with him are no longer connected with him. From Def Jam Records and Vogue to Gap and Balenciaga, even Madame Tussauds has removed Ye’s wax figure. So, is Ye’s career over and finally canceled?

Final Lines

Kanye West, who last week accused Adidas and Gap of stealing his ideas in an Instagram outburst, revealed to Bloomberg on Monday that he intends to end his corporate collaboration agreements with both firms whenever they expire.
