Upon leaving the room mid-episode, Jones explained,

“At the end of part one of that show I walked out the room and I didn’t go back until I heard the music at the end. I just couldn’t watch it.”

His wife noticed his departure and asked him why he left. Jones responded,

“Sandra, that is not a show I was in. That was not the show I spent 10 years in.”

This reaction highlights Jones’ perception of how much Coronation Street has changed since his departure in 2007. He expressed disappointment in the lack of storylines and comedy he once associated with the show.

His wife’s comment about the show not being recognizable to him further emphasizes the significant changes that have taken place over time.

Jones also addressed the recent news regarding Les Battersby’s death off-screen. While he admitted feeling a mix of sadness and relief about the character’s demise, he acknowledged that fans are upset about the decision. He stated,

“They told me via email”

about the plans for Les Battersby’s death, suggesting a somewhat impersonal approach to informing him about the character’s fate.

Despite his personal feelings about the situation, Jones emphasized that he has no issues with Coronation Street itself. He reflected on his ten-year tenure with the show, saying,

“I had ten great years with them.”

However, he noted that viewers are indeed unhappy about the decision to kill off Les Battersby.

Fans who were particularly attached to the character have been expressing their discontent, with some even choosing to watch classic episodes instead of continuing with the current storyline. Jones empathized with these viewers, stating,

“I say, ‘There’s no point having a go at me, it’s not my fault.'”
