What Happened To Craig Farrell From York City?

Craig Farrell, a former striker for Carlisle United and York City, died at the age of 39; however, his cause of death remains unknown.

Farrell went on to play for AFC Telford United, Hinckley United, Blyth Spartans, and Whitby Town after permanently departing York for Rushden & Diamonds.

Craig Wayne Farrell was an English football forward who played in the Football League for Carlisle United. He was three times represented by England Under-16s and played for Carlisle United earlier in his career.

When he was at York, Farrell never gave anything less than his all, which endeared him to the supporters.

On June 27, 2006, he joined the York City of the Conference National. On September 23, 2006, he scored his first goal for York in a 2–2 home tie against Southport. In February 2007, York manager Billy McEwan set a goal total of fifteen for Farrell for the 2006–07 season.

He missed the final two months of the season due to torn muscle fibers in his thigh, but the club elected to use their option to extend his contract for another season after he scored 10 goals in 51 games.

He began the 2007–08 season as a right winger, but owing to poor form and a thigh injury, he was unable to play for over a month after only seven appearances.

Craig Farrell’s family, friends, and admirers were shocked to learn of his death and have paid tribute to him. Following the devastating news, condolences poured in for the ex-England youth star on Monday evening.

“We are heartbroken to learn of former player Craig Farrell’s passing at the age of 39,” old team York tweeted.

“Our sympathies are with his family and friends at this terrible time.”

“We have received sad news of the unexpected death of former Bucks striker Craig Farrell, who played for the club in the 2011/12 season,” Telford United announced in a statement.
