“The Rachel Maddow Show” is her most well-known role. The show airs on MSNBC on Monday nights at 9:00 p.m. Eastern and is replayed at midnight Eastern.

Maddow has also won numerous awards, including Emmys for her television work and a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for her book Blowout in 2021.

Why is Rachel Maddow Leaving MSNBC?

On April 11, MSNC host Rachel Maddow returned to the show after a five-week hiatus. However, it appeared that she might need more time off.

In addition to that, she announced that she would transition to hosting her show just once a week, starting May 2. She will only host her MSNBC show on Monday nights going forward.

According to the source, it is part of the new contract she signed with the network. The newly signed contract gives her flexibility to work on other projects for MSNBC as well as NBC, including a film version of her award-winning podcast Bag Man, directed by Ben Stiller.

In addition to that, the program which she hosted for nearly 14 years was the most-watched program on the network. The program regularly draws more than 2 million viewers, going toe-to-toe on most nights with Fox News host Sean Hannity (CNN remains a distant third). The rating reportedly dropped while she previously took some time off the show.

They have announced their show’s new name as “MSNBC Prime on those nights” but have not announced a permanent host to replace Maddow. In the meantime, the network has been featuring the guest hosts like Ali Velshi.

Furthermore, per the source, Maddow is expected to return to the network to co-anchor big news nights. She is most likely to be on the air Tuesday, May 17, as part of MSNBC’s coverage of Pennsylvania’s primary election, which features a battle for the open U.S. Senate seat vacated by retiring Republican Sen. Pat Toomey.

Fans are curious to learn what happened to Rachel Maddow after her announcement to host on Mondays only on MSNBC.

It appears that she is currently busy with other projects. While announcing her hiatus earlier, she mentioned that she wanted some time to focus on developing projects for NBC Universal, be it new podcasts or to create a film adaptation of her book and podcast, The Bag Man.

Additionally, she stated that the interlude gave her time to relax and focus on some other MSNBC projects in the pipeline. She also added that she is pleased with the much-needed break.

Where Is She Going?

Per the source, Rachael Maddow is expected to co-anchor the network’s major news programs.

Additionally, it was also reported that starting in May, she will scale back her duties at MSNBC, from what had been a five-days-per-week role to hosting only on Mondays.

Her schedule change also seems to be part of her new contract. She recently signed a new pact with NBCUniversal that gives her aegis over a broader range of projects, including podcasts and films.

Further, she resides in New York City and Western Massachusetts with her partner, artist Susan Mikula.
