A creative woman has revealed how she transformed old glass jars into a stunning set of ceramic-looking vases.

The woman, from Sydney, decided to give an empty coffee jar, a glass water bottle and an old vase a new lease of life with a lick of paint and jute rope.

‘Anything can be upcycled,’ she wrote in a Facebook group.

‘It’s amazing how a coat of paint can transfer random objects of different shapes and sizes into a beautiful, elegant set of vases. Let’s think upcycling in the new year.’

The DIY process involves using chalk paint with a hint of dark wax over the objects before applying clear wax over the surface.

To finish off the look, she wrapped jute rope around each jar to create a rustic décor.

‘To answer all of your questions, this colour is Old Ochre from Annie Sloan Chalk Paint with a hint of dark wax and then sealed with clear wax,’ she explained.

‘No preparation is required, only a good wash and then leave to air dry before applying the paint.

‘When you apply the paint, you need to tap the brush against the glass to make it stick, and you’ll probably need to apply two to three coats for full coverage.’

Many described her creations as ‘absolutely gorgeous’, ‘beautiful’ and a ‘great idea’.

‘Wow these look fantastic. Makes me think I can do this to some beautiful candle jars that I don’t want to throw out,’ one wrote.

And another added: ‘Time to start rounding up the jars.’
