  • The event, happening on March 15, will feature a pre-party followed by the screening at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles.

Disney is gearing up to hold a Hollywood premiere for ‘Snow White’ on March 15, but this time around, they won’t be going all out with the usual red carpet setup we expect from these events.

The day will kick off with a pre-party screening at the El Cap Theatre, where we can expect to see lead actress Rachel Zegler along with Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen. Unlike past premieres, though, the red carpet won’t be lined with numerous media outlets for interviews with the cast and crew.

Instead, the media presence will be limited to just photographers and a small crew. Disney hasn’t commented on this new format, but it comes in the midst of various controversies surrounding the film directed by Marc Webb, set to hit theaters on March 21.

Some fans have voiced their disappointment with Zegler’s casting as Snow White, particularly pointing out her Latina background. The ‘West Side Story’ star faced backlash for calling the original 1937 animated film ‘dated,’ pointing out that the prince ‘literally stalks Snow White.’

In an interview with Variety at D23 two years ago, Zegler said, “She’s not going to be rescued by the prince. She’s not dreaming about true love. She’s aspiring to become the leader she knows she can be.”

This shift comes after years of debate about the film, largely amplified by Zegler’s outspoken political and cultural beliefs. The 23-year-old, who is making history as the first Latina to play Snow White, has described the 1937 classic as ‘extremely dated’ and has been critical of its central romantic storyline.
