Philadelphia’s chief prosecutor, Larry Krasner, filed a lawsuit against Musk and his pro-Trump political action committee, America PAC, in Pennsylvania state court. Krasner, a Democrat, argues that Musk’s giveaways violate federal law and pose a threat to election integrity.

“The Philadelphia district attorney is charged with protecting the public from public nuisances and unfair trade practices, including illegal lotteries,”

Krasner stated.

“We are also responsible for safeguarding the integrity of elections.”

This lawsuit comes on the heels of a warning letter sent by the Justice Department to America PAC regarding potential violations of federal law. The department expressed concerns that paying people to register to vote may be illegal under current regulations.

Elon Musk, known for his influential social media presence and recent endorsement of Donald Trump, has been actively supporting Republican candidates. His involvement in political campaigns has been significant, with reports suggesting he has donated $118 million to pro-Trump committees.

The entrepreneur has also been vocal about his political views through his platform, X (formerly Twitter). He regularly shares messages championing Trump and criticizing Democratic figures like Vice President Kamala Harris.

This legal challenge raises questions about the intersection of celebrity influence and electoral politics. As the November election approaches, scrutiny of high-profile endorsements and campaign contributions is likely to intensify.
